Moving can often be overwhelming and time consuming, especially when it comes to business moves. Here are a few tips to help you prepare.
Donate Equipment or Items You Do Not Use
The less you have to pack, the easier your move will be. If there are any laptops, computers, printers or other electronics that are in good shape but not being used, consider donating them. Most charities would be more than pleased to get this kind of donation.
Start Packing Early
The earlier you start, the less stress you’ll feel as moving day gets closer and closer.
Do Your Research on Moving Companies
Make sure you shop around and get estimates from multiple moving companies. Check out their websites, read online reviews and ask friends and family for recommendations.
Clearly Label Boxes
Make sure to write the contents and destination on each and every box. Employees should put their name on the boxes that need to be dropped off at their desk or office.
Keep Cables Together
When taking apart electronics, you want to make sure the cables don’t get misplaced. Keep cables together in plastic bags or by using twist ties. Make sure they are packed in the same box as the equipment they belong to.
Remove Printer Cartridges
If you have a small desk printer, you may be temped to just shove your printer in a moving box. This is a bad idea. First, you need to take out the printer cartridge. Place it in a plastic bag and label it, then pack it in the same box as the printer. If you have an industrial sized printer, make sure to check the owner’s manual. There may be special instructions for moving.
Pack Computer Monitors Separately
The screens of computer monitors are some of the most sensitive parts of a computer. You’ll want to wrap it in a moving blanket and pack it in a separate box. That way, you don’t have to worry about other items falling on top of the monitor and scratching it.
Power Down All Electronics
Some computers will look like they are turned off when they’re really just in sleep mode. Make sure to fully power off all your electronics before packing them away.
Moving day doesn’t have to mean stress and anxiety. Just follow these few tips and you’ll be on your way to a stress-free business move.
