DIY Halloween Cake Pops

DIY Halloween Cake Pops

If your kids are a little too young to handle a knife for pumpkin carving, decorating their own Halloween cake pops is a creative Halloween craft that’s both easy and delicious.

Ingredients:

One whole cake
White chocolate chips
Food colouring
Candy sticks
Cakepop decorations – sprinkles, candies, icing tubes, etc.

Instructions

Step #1: The Cake. First, you’ll need a whole cake. Either bake one or buy one from the store. We recommend Red Velvet Cake for deep blood red innards.

Step #2: The Frosting. Over very low heat, slowly melt white chocolate chips until the consistency is runny and smooth. Mix in the food colouring until it reaches the right colour. A few drops will do the trick. You’ll need to make several batches depending on how many different colours of frosting you want –  orange for pumpkins, green for witches, black for cats, etc.

Step #3: The Mixing. When the cake is done, crumble it all up into a bowl with a dollop of frosting. Use your hands and mix well until it all sticks together. Add more frosting if needed, but watch out you don’t put too much – you only want enough frosting to bind the cake mix together into cake pops. Too much frosting and the cake pop will be overly gooey.

Step #4: The Handle. Once the cake mix has reached the right consistency to bind together, scoop out cake pop-sized balls. Dip the end of each candy stick into frosting and stick them into the center of each cake pop. Let them sit until they harden.

Step #5: The Dipping. Once the cake pop is firmly secured onto its handle, slowly dip or roll the cake pop into frosting. Make sure to coat the entire cake pop evenly. Then let them sit until they harden.

And there you have it! Multi-coloured cake pops ready for decoration! The kids can use whatever sprinkles, candies and icing tubes you have on hand to complete the yummy Halloween cake pop decorations.

Do you have any great Halloween snack ideas? Leave them in the comments!
