Scrambling for the right tools at the last minute is a recipe for a stress-filled moving experience. Many of the most important tools will be provided by any professional moving company you hire. Make sure to ask them before moving day what tools and supplies they’ll be bringing, and what you should expect to provide yourself.
If you plan on moving with the help of friends and family, you’ll want to have the following tools on hand before moving day arrives:
Moving Dolly. This handy piece of equipment will help save your back the ache and strain of lifting and carrying boxes.
Floor Runners. We want to make sure your floors are properly protected during the move. There will be lots of people traipsing in and out of your home – old and new! – so you’ll want to lay down floor runners between the door and each room you’ll be moving boxes to and from.
Furniture Blankets. Wrapping each piece of furniture with padded blankets is important to ensure they don’t get scratched or jarred during the move.
Packing Materials. Bubble wrap, packing peanuts, plastic wrap, packing tape, box labels, permanent markers – these are all the items you’ll need when packing up your possessions.
Cardboard or Reusable Boxes. Most people opt for cardboard boxes because they are easy to find – and most moving companies will supply them to you. For the environmentally-conscious, there is also the option to use plastic reusable boxes. A couple of our TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations even offer environmentally friendly, plastic moving boxes, delivered right to your door.
With the right tools at hand, you’ll be well on your way to a stress-free moving day!
