Moving an office can be just as stressful as a home move, if not moreso. You want your business move to be fast and efficient. Here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, we want your move to go off without a hitch. To ensure you are adequately prepared for this important day, we’ve put together a few tips for you and your employees.
Use A Checklist
No matter how big or small your office might be, there are going to be a lot of tasks on your to-do list. To make sure nothing falls through the cracks, you’ll want to make a checklist. This should include all items that need to be packed and all jobs that need to be completed, such as disconnecting computers and equipment. This will help speed up the job on moving day. Remember that old adage: Time is money!
De-Clutter
Once you’ve decided to move your office, it’s time to start doing away with all that clutter.
Decide which office items are important and need to go with you and which can be thrown out. That old broken printer that’s been gathering dust in the corner? Time for it to go!
Make sure your employees file any important papers and get rid of items that are useless or just take up space. The fewer things you need to pack up, the fewer boxes we will need to move. That makes for a faster moving day.
Notify Customers And Update Contact Info
Make sure to give your customers and clients a heads up months before the move. This allows them to prepare in advance. We suggest notifying them three times.
Two months before your move you should announce your new address. This will give you time to get your employees new business cards, order new stationary and update any business materials like brochures and pamphlets.
One month before your move you should send a second reminder notice to customers and clients in case the first one went unnoticed or was misplaced.
The final notice should be on the move day itself. Have your employees call their most important customers and clients. This is to ensure a smooth transition for your valued customers.
With these few tips, your business move will be just another day at the office!
