Office moves can be tough for employees. It’s hard to get work done for the day with all the packing and relocating. Whether it’s moving to a completely new building across town, or only moving a few desks over, these 5 office moving tips will help any employee during a business move.
Clean the workspace
Before the move, take some time for a thorough cleaning. Sort through all your paperwork, file the important documents and shred the ones you don’t need anymore. You can also scan important documents to your computer before recycling them.
Use consistent labeling
You want to make sure you can find all your belongings quickly after a move, so you can easily re-create your workspace. Proper labeling will ensure you know what’s in each box.
Bring personal items home
If you’re worried about personal items getting misplaced, such as photo frames, posters or plants, arrange to take them home the day before the move.
Work from home, if possible
If you’re able to work from home, you may want to do so. That way, you won’t have to worry about movers interrupting your work, or seeing your productivity suffer.
Find your new desk
You don’t want to be wandering around the new office, wondering where your desk is. Ask your manager ahead of time for a floor plan so you’ll know exactly where to go on moving day.
