At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, we look forward to celebrating Halloween each year. In the past, we have shared design inspirations to create costumes with your leftover moving boxes. This year, we have taken it a step further and have created some “boxtume” tutorials, so that you can see how to create your very own “boxtume”! This is the second portion of our Halloween “boxtume” series.
Lego Block
Are you looking for a costume that won’t hurt your wallet, and is easy to make? Create one of the most iconic toys in the world, the Lego block. For this DIY project, we used a medium sized TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® box and some craft materials. You can use any box size for your “boxtume”, simply match the size to the person who’ll be wearing it.
Supplies:
- Scissors or a box cutter
- Red spray paint (the can cost us $6)
- Hot glue gun
- Suspenders (ours cost us $9). Ribbon or string will work too.
- Ruler
- Pencil or pen
- 6 or 8 plastic cups
Step 1: Cut all of the flaps off of your box. Try to make each side as even as possible.
Step 2: Take your ruler and draw two lines near the middle of the front of the box. Make sure to leave a good gap between, as you don’t want your pegs to be too close together. Take one of the cups and draw a circle for each cup that you’ll be using. Try to keep each circle parallel to its opposite.
Step 3: Take your hot glue gun and draw on glue along the lip of each of the cups. Try to do it one at a time, as the glue can dry quickly. Once you’ve placed each one of them on the box, let them dry.
Step 4: Take the box to a well-ventilated area and begin spray painting the box on each of its sides. Make sure to spend time on the front area with the cups, as the lips tend to be white, and have a harder time retaining the paint. Let the paint dry.
Step 5: Once the paint has dried, attach your suspenders to the front and the back of the box. Adjust the straps accordingly, based on your height and width of your shoulders.
Step 6: Step into your Lego box!
