As the Christmas season comes to an end and it comes time to store your decorations away until next year, frustrations tend to arise. Don’t fret! Although the task at hand can seem daunting, by taking the time and properly organizing your decorations, you can make the process that much easier in the years to come. To help you out we’re sharing some of our expert packing tips on how best to store your holiday items.
Supplies
Before you begin to pack up, you first need to make sure that you have all of the proper supplies. Fortunately, all TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations have a variety of boxes available for sale that you can use for your storage and packing needs.
Ornaments
When it comes to decorations, many of us rarely save the boxes that they originally come in. For this reason, we recommend that you use a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® dish pack box and some tissue paper to pack your ornaments. This is a much safer alternative when compared with throwing them in a plastic bag. If possible, aim to use acid-free tissue paper when wrapping your ornaments to avoid any chemicals that may damage them.
Packing them in the dish box will allow you to keep items organized and allow you to easily find ornaments for years to come.
Lights
Packing away lights can be one of the most stressful parts of the Christmas season. Avoid getting tangled up by taking a cardboard flap from a spare box and simply wrapping your lights around the flap. This simple trick allows your lights to stay in good condition while taking up less storage.
Wreaths
Wreaths are wonderful to have around during the holidays but can take up a lot of space the rest of the year. When storing them away, try to utilize your moving boxes as a storage compartment to keep the wreath’s free from damage. Although it may be easy, don’t overpack your wreaths just to make them fit. You may bend them, and the wreath will have lost its full decorative appeal.
Label boxes
Label your boxes. Even if you don’t have too many to store, labelling them will help to reduce the time you spend next year setting up your decorations. There are many ways to label your boxes, but we recommend labelling by room, or by the order you plan to unpack them.
Linen Storage
It’s easy to forget about packing away all of the linens that you use throughout the holidays when you have so many delicate decorations and ornaments. Store holiday bed linens, dish towels, table runners and a tree skirt in a dry place where they won’t be damaged by moisture.
