For many of us, electronics can make up our world. They help us to connect with someone far away or can help to reduce the amount of time that we spend on daily tasks.
As movers, we realize how important each of these items is as we aim to treat each item as if it were our own. In fact, one of the most common questions we get is how we transport electronics safely, especially big-screen TVs.
This is why whether it’s a move across town, or across Canada, we make sure to give these items special treatment so that they arrive safely and in good working order.
Packing Tips for Electronics
- If you can, we always recommend packing your electronics in the boxes they came in. It’s often the best option for transporting, as the box is custom fit to your item and will usually have foam spacers that the electronic items came in. This is rare though, as most people will often throw out their box as soon as they’ve gotten it.If you’re like most of us who threw out their box, don’t worry, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® carries a wide variety of boxes to help move items safely (yes, big screen TV’s as well). They’re specifically designed to make sure that your items stay safe, even if you’re moving across the country.
- If you have a newer TV that has wall brackets aim to take everything apart beforehand. People will rarely keep the installation instructions for the brackets, which can become chaotic on moving day. We suggest preparing for your move is to take the TVs off the walls yourself ahead of time and have them ready to be packaged properly.
- If you’re disassembling electronics for a move, that have a lot of parts and pieces; take a photo with your camera, so that it’s easier to set up in your new home. Often TV’s, cable boxes, PVRs and the like will have a bunch of cables that need connecting, and it’s easier to reference a photo than from memory.
- The same goes for stereos and gaming systems. Many teenagers leave their entire gaming systems hooked up until moving day. It’s up to them to disassemble their systems and hopefully place them into the packing they arrived in. If not, the best thing to do is wrap consoles in anti-static bubble wrap and place them into appropriately sized boxes so they won’t move around during the trip.
