How To Stay Organized When Heading Back To School

August 20, 2018 By A Very Moving Blog

The school season is right around the corner and families are shifting into school mode after a long and relaxing summer. As we approach fall, as expected nerves are setting in for many students starting their first day of school. Heading back to school can be scary, especially for children who have moved over the summer. Follow some of our handy tips for your child’s success.

Tips For Heading Back To School

Plan a school outfit for their first day back

Help your child pick out an outfit that they want to wear on their first day back. It should make them feel comfortable, happy and confident. If you have the budget, plan to purchase something new at a back to school sale. They’ll look great in their new fall clothes!

Practice their schedule with them

If your son or daughter is younger, or nervous about their first day at a new school, take some time and plan out their schedule with them. Walk them through each of their classes and classrooms. This is especially useful for incoming middle-schoolers, who will now be travelling to classes on their own!

Get plenty of school supplies

Find out your school’s supply list in advance or get a print out of common school supplies from an office supply store in your area. If you order from a website online, there is a chance that you’ll be able to get a package deal at a lower price.

Make hearty breakfasts and pack a nutritious lunch

Having nutritious meals before school and during lunches will make sure that your child stays energized throughout the day. Make sure that each meal is healthy and filling so that they don’t get hungry throughout the day. Let them know that you’re thinking of them by leaving a note in their lunch box.

Encourage your child to get involved with an after-school program or sport

Joining a sport or an after-school program can be a beneficial experience for your chile. It will ensure that they remain active, and will help them to meet new people. Talk with them and see what they’re interested in. Encourage them to try something new even if it’s a little outside of their comfort zones.

Get to know your child’s teachers and friends

Your kids spend their entire day with their friends and teachers, so you should get to know them! You can understand your child’s perspective better if you are familiar with their main influences.

Show your kids extra patience and support

This is nerve-wracking stuff! Every child responds differently to stress, so be prepared and supportive through it all.
