There are plenty of reasons why leaving the tedious and strenuous tasks to professional movers like us. Your health is worth loads more than saving the extra couple of dollars. Moving presents a host of potential injuries and we want to help you minimize that as much as possible!
To stay safe during the move requires you to be prepared with the proper equipment and take notice and immediate action to any physical and mental needs.
Gear up!
Having the proper moving gear is essential to carrying out the move process to avoid any injuries. Here are very useful items to help you stay safe:
Work gloves. It’s important to get a good grip on your belongings especially if they’re heavy. Make sure that the material of your gloves is well-constructed, comfortable with lots of padding, and sweat-resistant.
Moving straps. Quality moving straps are designed to help reduce stress in high-injury areas like your back, knees, and shoulders. We highly recommend that you do not move anything heavy enough that requires this. If you absolutely need to, you should consider investing in support to help you lift safely.
Dollies. This tool allows you to push your items with ease without all the extra strain on your physical well being. Try to use equipment that shoulders most of the weight of heavy items so you could focus on simply pushing and pulling.
Boxes and Packing Materials. Although it can be easy to get boxes from a local grocer or liquor store, they’re often old broken down boxes that can easily break during a move. Invest a little bit of money and get quality boxes that are brand new. Trust us, it does make a world of difference. All TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations have boxes for sale on-site as well as a wide range of packing materials.
Get help if it’s too heavy
It sounds like simple advice and you’d be surprised at how many people don’t take it! If it feels like a big stretch to lift and carry something, stop and ask for an extra set of hands. Consider moving with smaller and lighter boxes. Having the fewest but heavy boxes take up more time and is much more difficult to move from one place to another. With all the extra effort and strain, moving heavy packaged items will require twice as much work.
