Mother’s Day is an occasion which honours mothers and motherhood, as well as unique maternal bonds. It’s also a time to acknowledge the influence of mothers on our families and in our culture. This is usually done with cards, flowers, gifts, and time spent with those that you love.
What do you have planned for your mother, this Mother’s Day? If you’re still searching for the perfect solution, read on, as we have some ideas for you to make this mothers day a great one!
New Moms
New moms are thrilled to begin celebrating this holiday for the first time as a parent. Consider first-time mommy gifts of the lasting kind, so they have something to cherish for years to come. Bracelets and pendants with new baby’s name or footprints will be received with joy – likely even a few happy tears. This takes additional planning, so keep in mind you’ll need a few weeks for production and possibly shipping time.
Another wonderful idea is to make a photo collage of your new child’s first memories. Collages are available for order online from a host of suppliers, are offered in a variety of sizes, and are generally inexpensive.
Dads, use your smartphone and take a series of cute and funny pictures of you and your child; upload, order and watch for the package to come in. If you’re feeling really creative, you can try your hand at making your own.
Single Moms
Whether newly single or not, all moms need to have a celebration on Mother’s Day. If you’re celebrating your big day with your kids, it may take some more organizing on your part, but it won’t be any less special.
If you’re feeling adventurous, try to plan for a day out. Take the kids shopping for gifts or plan to go to a fun place like the zoo. Aim to visit a place that both you and your kids will enjoy. Then treat your family to lunch at your favourite restaurant. This day will be a special way to spend time together and will be one to remember.
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money by going out on your day, plan some activities at home; like crafts. Get fun paints, glitter, and other supplies and let your kids create a present for you. Purchase a small wooden jewellery box at your local craft store and let your kids paint and decorate it. Each time you reach for a piece of jewellery you’ll remember the fun you all had decorating the keepsake.
Need some R&R after spending the day with the kids? Ask the grandparents or close friends if they wouldn’t mind watching them while you treat yourself to a special spa day.
If you have a friend who’s a single mom, think about organizing a dual Mother’s day. The day will be made extra special with your friend, and additional loved ones.
Seasoned Moms
Sentimental gifts know no age. The mothers of teens and adults told us that they prefer something that has a special significance. Whether the item is a piece of jewellery or a cherished memento; like a themed coffee cup, what matters is reminding moms of the significance of the day—and even year—and the doting child(ren) who gifted it.
Can a little peace and quiet be packaged up? This was also a list-topper for moms who have a love-hate relationship with the familiar noises of a busy household what feels like 24/7. While the holiday is about celebrating motherhood and the kids are an integral part of the equation, sending mom off to meet with a gal pal for a late afternoon pedicure or Pinot Noir (or both!) is just the mini-escape to brighten her day – especially if any babysitting needs are seamlessly handled. Day spas also offer a variety of packages with one or multiple services. A gift certificate can be redeemed for later use.
Grandmoms
Plan to your Grandmothers taste. Although it can be tempting to organize large-scale events for mother’s on Mother’s Day, grandmothers may want to celebrate their big day with something a little lower key. Doing something as simple as a nice brunch or a day at the botanical gardens could prove to be the perfect day out.
If you’re hoping to do something within your home, know that the gift of time is the greatest gift to most grandparents. Consider setting time aside to do crafts, tell stories, bake items; just have time with one another. Spending time with one another is often what grandparents desire the most as they look forward to being a part of their family’s lives.
Mother’s and Grandmothers are very special to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, which is why we created the GRANDMA RULE®. Simply, it’s to treat every one of our customers as though they were our grandmother. This is often one of our most cherished core values, we think, due largely in part to the relationship that we’ve all had with our mothers. Happy Mother’s Day.
