Moving homes or offices can feel like an overwhelming task, and packing up all of your belongings is the first major challenge. With a few deep breaths and these packing tips, you can conquer your move without losing your mind.
Before Packing
You want to reserve your moving company at least a month prior to your move (eight weeks during the busy summer moving season) to guarantee availability on your preferred moving day. Once you have your movers selected, you can start to pack up your belongings in anticipation of their arrival. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® will even pack for you, simplifying and streamlining the moving process.
Plan ahead
There’s no substitute for proper planning. If you’re able to get a jump on the packing process prior to moving day, it will make your whole moving experience better.
Create a plan, go room-by-room, and take on a little bit each day as you work toward moving day.
Keep items protected
Using the proper packing supplies when moving your items makes a huge difference in keeping your belongings protected during the moving process. Moving boxes, bubble wrap, and packing paper ensure items that are easily breakable, or electronics, stay safe.
Here’s a good reminder: the heavier the item you are moving, the smaller the box should be. This will prevent the bottom of the box from breaking out when moving.
Organize by room
As you’re packing up room-by-room through your house, be sure to keep boxes from the same room together and label them. This will make it easier to determine what is what, and will also let the movers know how they should pack them onto the truck.
Keep an Essentials box
Pack important and sentimental documents separately to be easily accessible including: children’s health records, passports, family records, insurance information and photo albums.
Label as much as you can
It may seem obvious, but you wouldn’t believe the difference that labeling can make in the chaos of a home move. Accurately label each box while packing so everyone involved knows what is in the box and where it should go.
