When packing for a move, protecting your valuables is one of the most important things to take care of. With the right moving supplies, your treasured items will arrive at your new home safe and sound!
Fine china: First, never use newsprint to wrap your fine china. There’s a chance the ink will rub off and stain. You definitely don’t want that! Use plain packing paper when wrapping up fine china. You’ll want to use a specialty moving box called a dish box or a dish barrel with dish pack inserts. Dish boxes are the strongest box available. Dish inserts go inside the dish pack boxes to form individual cells used for packing fragile, breakable items.
Vases and figurines: You’ll want lots of bubble wrap and packing paper for these! First, you’ll want to roll the items in packing paper or bubble wrap, making sure to cover them in enough layers to protect them during the move. Carefully tuck the ends down and secure them with packing tape. When you place them in moving boxes, use more bubble wrap and packing paper to make sure everything is snug and tight.
Jewellry – Small pieces of jewellry like necklaces, earrings and bracelets can get lost easily. They are so small that if one of them falls into the folds of a box or is put in a box designated for a storage closet, you may not find it again for months! That’s why you’ll want to keep all pieces of your jewellry in the same box. Carefully wrap each item in bubble wrap or packing paper – you don’t want your jewellry to get tangled together! Make sure to tape all ends shuts so nothing can fall out. Keep all the pieces in the same box, making sure it’s a smaller size than the average moving box. Make sure to label it correctly! You may want to place that small box inside a larger box with other bedroom items in it.
Important documents. Keep important documents such a passports, medical records, financial statements, etc., with you on moving day. Keep them in a small box and label it as IMPORTANT. You’ll want to bring it in the car with you when you leave your old house for good.
Additional Tip: Always make sure to get moving insurance!
