Spring has arrived and you know what that means – moving season! You’ve got to get some spring cleaning done before you can move to your new home. If you’ve been keeping on top of things, you shouldn’t have to worry about the day-to-day and weekly cleaning tasks like doing the dishes or scrubbing the toilet. This is a list of the more intense chores you need to take care of before spring arrives in full swing.
The Whole House
- Clean all the windows, inside and out.
- Clean all the window sills
- Wipe off those fingerprints on all the doorframes.
- Take down all the curtains and put them in the laundry.
- Dust all the corners of the ceiling to get rid of any dust or cobwebs.
- Sweep, vacuum and mop all the floors. Then get down on your hand and knees and scrub away any stains that are still left.
Living Room
- Vacuum underneath and shampoo all the carpets and rugs. You may want to rent a steam cleaner for this.
- Vacuum underneath and shampoo all the fabric furniture, including sofas, armchairs and footstools.
- Disinfect all the hard surfaces, like the tops of side tables and coffee tables.
- Polish and wax all the wooden furniture.
- Clean the tops of all the bookshelves.
- Dust the top of the ceiling fan.
- Wipe down and dust the lampshades.
Bedrooms
- Take the heavy winter bedding and blankets off the bed and put them in the laundry. When they’re clean and dry, store them away for next winter.
- Wash and dry your pillows, if they are machine washable.
- Rotate and flip the mattress.
- Put on a set of fresh clean sheets for spring. They should be light cotton or other breathable material for the warm weather to come.
- Take all the clothes out of the dresser and wipe down and clean the inside of the drawers.
- Organize the closet, setting aside clothing that doesn’t fit for donation.
Bathrooms
- Scrub the dirt out of the grout in your tiled floors
- Scrub the dirt out of the grout in your tiled bathtub and shower walls
- Remove everything from the bathroom cabinet and clean out the inside.
- Throw out any expired medicine or bathroom products.
- Clean the ceiling fan and vents
- Take off the shower curtain and clean it, or replace it with a brand new one.
- Polish all the mirrors
Kitchen
- Take everything out of the cabinets and clean out the insides.
- Clean the tops of the cabinets.
- Check the pantry for expired food and throw it out.
- Throw out expired food from the refrigerator and clean it out.
- Dust the top of the ceiling fan.
- Clean out the inside of the coil burners of your stove.
- Clean the inside of the oven.
- Wipe down all the small appliances and disinfect them.
- Scrub the dirt out of the grout in your tiled floors.
