Moving is one of life’s major events. Being prepared well in advance can help ease this overwhelming process. However, no matter how prepared you believe you might be, there are always one or two things people tend to forget or overlook. Here are the top five essentials you’ll need during and after your move.
1) Protective Materials
Bubble wrap is important for making sure your fragile items don’t break in transit. Plastic sheeting and moving blankets are used as coverings to protect your furniture from scratches. Plain packing paper should be used to pack dishes instead of newsprint, because the ink can rub off and stain.
2) Cleaning Materials
As the movers begin removing boxes and furniture from your home, you’ll no doubt find little pockets of dirt and mess that you missed during your last clean sweep. It’s important to have cleaning materials on hand for that final cleanup. You’ll also want to have cleaning supplies readily available when you first arrive at your new home. You never know what sort of state the previous tenants might have left it in.
3) Snacks and Drinks
Moving is a strenuous activity and can sometimes take all day. You’ll want to make sure you have food and drinks on hand, and that you take proper breaks so you don’t exhaust yourself.
4) Coordinated Labels
It will be helpful to have all your boxes marked and labeled before moving day, but sometimes that’s not always possible. We are well aware that last minute items sometimes need to get packed up on moving day. That’s why it’s important to have materials on hand to label them correctly – permanent markers, colour-coded stickers and fragile-item labels. This will ensure you can easily find and unpack these last minute boxes.
5) Checklist
Moving day is always going to be a whirlwind of activity. It can be easy to overlook the smaller things. Having a checklist will keep you on track. Being organized, making a list and checking it twice will always make moving day easier for your and your moving team.
