Moving day is an important day for sure, but let’s not forget all the tasks that need to come before moving day – like selling your house! Before you can move into your new home, you need to sell your current one. This is easier in some housing markets than others. Home staging is one solution when selling your home quickly is a priority. A lot of research has gone into figuring out just what makes a home look appealing to potential buyers. We’ve distilled some of the top home staging advice to help you out.
Get rid of the clutter. The very first thing you want to do is get rid of all the clutter. A clean and sparse look is what you’re going for. You’ll need to clean and declutter for the move anyway, so you might as well get started ahead of time!
Brighten up the place. Adding some extra lamps and changing some light bulbs to high wattage can make a big difference. More light makes a room feel inviting and warm. The more at home someone feels, the more likely they are to like the house in general.
Put on a fresh coat of paint. If the paint on your walls is very old or out of date, a fresh new coat of paint in a bright colour can really lighten up a room and make it seem larger than it is.
Remove photos and mementos. Although you may love the look of photos and mementos on your walls, side tables and fireplace mantel, these types of objects make it harder for a prospective home buyer to envision the house as their own space. You want to depersonalize your home as much as possible.
Add a bit of new decor. Take a look at some of the newer trends in home interior design and home decor and try out a few things. Maybe a new centre piece for your dining room table? Maybe a couple throw pillows with in-season colours and patterns? Anything to create an up-to-date look makes a home feel more enticing to prospective buyers.
If you follow these 5 steps, your home will give off a welcoming and inviting vibe for anyone who walks in the door!
