There’s no special secret or magic trick to a smooth and effortless move, but there are definitely some key ways to streamline the moving process. Our expert movers in have put together a few tips that work wonders for home moving.
Have a plan. Plan to tackle one room at a time, and one area within that room at a time. Don’t move on until all the non-essentials are properly boxed up and labelled. Only leave out the items you’ll need for the next few weeks.
Downsize. Now is the time to donate never-worn clothing, throw out that ratty old armchair, and re-gift all those knickknacks gathering dust.
Have one point of contact. Assign one person in the family to be the main point-of-contact and introduce them as such to the estimators, customer service representatives, movers and drivers. If someone from the moving company has a question, it’s always better to receive one answer from the customer. It makes the whole moving process much less confusing on moving day.
Label. Everything. Label your boxes with the room destination on all sides. Stick a label on the entrance of each room in your new house – especially bedrooms. If the house is big enough, sketch out a floor plan for your movers.
These 4 pieces of advice might seem simple, but if you follow them, you’ll experience much less moving-related stress, both before, during, and after moving day!
